BAYSIDE – A woman was raped by two men early Wednesday morning, police said. The 22-year-old woman was picked up by the two men near 27th Street and Broadway in Manhattan at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, said Detective Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman. They took her to the corner of 48th Avenue and 211th Street in Bayside, where they raped and sodomized her, Galindo said.
The two men, described only as two Hispanic men age 25 to 30, released her and fled the scene, Galindo said.
The victim was taken to Flushing Hospital for observation. Police in the 111th Precinct have not yet made any arrests and were investigating the incident.
Willow Lake brush blaze chokes Grand Central traffic
FLUSHING MEADOWS CORONA PARK – A brush fire near Willow Lake sent out plumes of smoke Sunday afternoon, shutting down traffic on the Grand Central Parkway for an hour, police said.
The fire started at about 2:55 p.m. on Sunday, said Detective Gary Cillo, a police spokesman. It appeared to have begun near Willow Lake, and smoke from the blaze spewed out onto the Grand Central Parkway, near the Jewel Avenue exit, Cillo said.
Fire marshals determined that the fire was not suspicious, but it was unclear exactly how it started, Cillo said. No one was injured, but traffic in both directions on the Grand Central Parkway was halted for an hour.
Bat-wielding group assaults boy in Briarwood
BRIARWOOD – A group of people assaulted a 13-year-old boy with a baseball bat Friday afternoon, police said.
The victim was beaten near the corner of 148th Street and 87th Avenue at about 5 p.m. Friday, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a police spokesman. The boy was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition as of press time.
His attackers, described as a group of black males, fled the scene, Cottingham said. Police in the 107th Precinct have not yet made any arrests in the assault.
Robbers fail to net cash in Jackson Heights break-in
JACKSON HEIGHTS – Burglars broke into a drug store early Saturday morning but left without any cash, police said.
The suspects entered through the roof of the Rite-Aid drug store at 35-06 Junction Blvd. at 4:37 a.m. Saturday, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a police spokesman. They tried but failed to open the ATM machine in the store and fled the scene after grabbing various things from the store, Cottingham said.
Police in the 115th Precinct have not yet made any arrests, and they have no description of the suspects.
Woodside men injured in train-surfing accident
JACKSON HEIGHTS – Two young men from Woodside were seriously injured Monday night after falling from the top of the subway car they were “surfing.”
The two men were riding on the top of a northbound A-train at about 10:40 p.m. Monday when they were hit by an unknown object between the 65th Drive and 74th Street stops, said Detective Joseph Cavitolo, a police spokesman. Lawrence Mackey, 22, of Woodside was knocked onto the tracks, and Sean Curran, 21, of Woodside, fell between two subway cars, Cavitolo said.
Passengers in the train helped Curran, and he was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he was in stable condition as of press time, Cavitolo said. Transit police found Mackey on the tracks, and he was taken to Elmhurst in critical condition, Cavitolo said.
Three men hurl racial epithets at a man in Middle Village
MIDDLE VILLAGE – There was an alleged bias incident in the vicinity of 67th Drive Sunday evening, police said.
The victim, who was not identified, said three white males approached at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday and asked for directions, said Detective Vincent Gravelli, a police spokesman. The men then used racial remarks and sprayed the victim with an unidentified liquid, Gravelli said.
There were no injuries, and police have not yet made any arrests, Gravelli said.
Man found dead in Corona
CORONA – A man in his 30s was found stabbed to death Friday night, and police say they are searching for his killer.
The victim, identified only as a 32-year-old male Hispanic, was found in front of 102-34 43rd Ave. with multiple stab wounds to his back at about 10 p.m. last Friday, said Officer Chris Cottingham, a police spokesman. He was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Cottingham said.
The police had no name or address for the victim, who was found outside an apartment building. Detectives in the 110th Precinct are investigating the murder.
Person killed in City Line when speeding car overturns
CITY LINE – One person was killed and two seriously injured in a car accident early Monday morning, police said.
The car, a 1984 Nissan four-door sedan, was traveling northbound on North Conduit Avenue at 2:15 a.m. at a high rate of speed, said Detective Vincent Gravelli, a police spokesman. The driver lost control of the car near the intersection of 78th Street, and the car flipped over several times, Gravelli said.
The driver removed himself from the car and fled the scene of the accident, but his three passengers were ejected from the car, Gravelli said. Sukhdeo Persaud, 22, was taken to Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn and pronounced dead.
The other passengers, Deonarain Persaud, 20, and Chandradat Ori, 21, were taken to Jamaica Hospital. Persaud was in critical condition, and Chandradat was in stable condition as of press time, Gravelli said. Police did not have addresses for the victims.
Cambria Heights fire produces no injuries
CAMBRIA HEIGHTS – A suspicious fire was set at a house early Sunday morning, but no one was injured, police said.
Police and fire officials responded to the blaze at 117-31 Francis Lewis Blvd. at 2:17 a.m. Sunday, said Detective Gary Cillo, a police spokesman. There was minimal property damage to the house, and the fire was extinguished soon after fire fighters arrived, Cillo said.
The fire marshal determined that the fire was suspicious, but it was not clear exactly how it started. No one was injured, and no arrests have been made, Cillo said.
Man shot twice in Springfield Gardens
SPRINGFIELD GARDENS – A man was shot Tuesday night and took himself to Jamaica Hospital, police said.
The 32-year-old victim had been shot twice near the corner of 134th Avenue and Rockaway Boulevard at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Officer Louis Cruz, a police spokesman. He had been hit in the left calf and right ankle, and he brought himself to Jamaica Hospital by private means, Cruz said.
The victim told police, who were called to the hospital, that he did not know who shot him or why he had been shot, Cruz said.
Teen injures teen in South Ozone Park shooting
SOUTH OZONE PARK – One teenager was shot in the neck by another Monday night, police said.
The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was talking to a friend in front of 130-12 127th St. at about 10:50 p.m. when she was shot once in the neck, said Detective Joseph Cavitolo, a police spokesman. She was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital and was in stable condition as of press time.
Andre Patterson, 18, was arrested for the shooting, Cavitolo said. He was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, but police had no address for him.
Astoria man critical after family dispute
ASTORIA – A family argument Sunday afternoon ended with a man critically injured, and his stepfather arrested, police said.
Robert Cialone, 61, of 33-20 23rd St., was arguing with his 39-year-old stepson Sunday, when he allegedly shot the younger man, said Detective Gary Cillo, a police spokesman.
Police in the 114th Precinct arrived on the scene at about 12:30 p.m. and found the victim with two gunshot wounds.
He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was in critical condition as of press time, Cillo said. Police recovered a .25-caliber weapon from the scene. Cialone was charged with assault and criminal possession of weapon.
