A State Supreme Court judge has knocked Cynthia Jenkins off the ballot in the September Democratic primary for the state senate seat in the 10th District, but she plans to run in November on the Independence and Green Party lines.
Jenkins has contended it is virtually impossible to get elected in the heavily Democratic district, which stretches from Jamaica to the Rockaways, without winning the Democratic Party.
Incumbent state Sen. Malcolm Smith (D-St. Albans) has the backing of the Queens Democratic machine.
Judge Luther Dye ruled Monday in the Jamaica courthouse that Jenkins did not have enough signatures to run for the seat because the court found several hundred of her nomination signatures to be fraudulent.
Last week 17 witnesses testified that Helen Roberts, a campaign volunteer for Jenkins, forged the names of dozens of community members and several dead people, including a minister and a nun who died within the past year.
