Three days later, a 26-year-old man who also lives in Flushing was attacked with a blunt object, possibly a brick, outside his house. He spent five days in the hospital and received 50 surgical staples and 15 stitches to his head. He, too, is a Korean American.
The police would not speculate about whether these two attacks were related, but apart from the weapon used, one aspect of both incidents was patently clear: both were assaults on Asian Americans. And that singular fact has begun to raise significant concerns among Asian-American immigrant activists.
