Open House

Martin Luther High School, 60-02 Maspeth Ave., Maspeth will open its doors to all current 7th and 8th grade students and their families on Sun., Oct. 15 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and also on Thurs., Oct. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for its annual Fall Open House. Prospective students will also be given the opportunity to register for the upcoming Academic Excellence Scholarship Exam and Entrance Exam on Sat., Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m. 718-894-4000.

The Jamaica YMCA hosts its sixth annual Community Fall Open House. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy free exercise classes, swimming, sports events, fitness testing and much more. 718-739-6600.

The Reform Temple of Forest Hills holds a dramatic reading and community study of Genesis 22, The Binding of Isaac during the observance of Selichot, the prayers of forgiveness. The temple conducts Tashlikh service on the second day of Rosh Hashanah on Sunday, Oct. 1. The congregation joins Rabbi Mayer Perelmuter and Cantor Cary Schwartz at 3:15 p.m. for a walk from the temple, 71-11 112th St., to a lake in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park to cast bread crumbs, symbolizing sins of the pevious year, into the water. A Torah discussion and Shofar service precedes the walk, at 2 p.m. 718-261-2900.

St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 1465 Clintonville St., Whitestone offers Saturday Eves of Feasts: Great Vespers at 6 p.m. and Sundays and Feast Days: Divine Liturgy, at 10 a.m. 718-767-7292.

The Bellerose Jewish Center, 254-04 Union Tpke., Floral Park offers a free Jewish education for Kindergarten and Sunday School children. The center also provides a thorough religious curriculum for Grade 3 through Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
