New Head Start center opens in St. Albans

By Bryan Schwartzman

More than 200 people gathered on the grounds of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in St. Albans to name the newest Head Start center in southeast Queens after Stroman, who helped bring the program to St. Albans more than 40 years ago.

Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families and operated by local non-profit organizations across the country.

The Ruby Lott Stroman Head Start Center, located on the grounds of the church, will be the second such center in southeast Queens. Both centers are overseen and administered by the Human Resources Center of St. Albans, a non-profit community development group connected with the St. Albans Congregational Church.
