The 46-year-old truck driver, who was not identified, was driving west on 32nd Avenue, when he said the steering wheel of the truck, owned by Viccari Construction Inc. of Whitestone, tightened and became hard to turn. The truck plowed into the parked cars about 9:30 a.m.
The first car that was hit, a maroon four-door Cadillac, was pushed onto the sidewalk, where it hit an 87-year-old man who was leaving a store on the avenue. The man was treated at the scene by emergency medical service personnel, and transported to Flushing Hospital.
The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
Flushing man missing for days
FLUSHING – Police were looking for a 67-year-old Flushing man suffering from dementia who has been missing from his apartment since Wednesday, Oct. 25, authorities said.
Ramon Alavardo of 26-10 Union St., was last seen at home at about 11 p.m. Oct. 25 wearing a white T-shirt and blue pajama shorts, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
He was reported missing on Friday.
Alavardo is a Hispanic man, 5-foot-10 and 131 pounds, Chew said.

Six people robbed at gunpoint on 174th St.
FRESH MEADOWS – Two robbers stole more than $500 worth of cash and property at gunpoint from a group of people Friday night, police said.
A woman and four men were standing on a street corner opposite 64-18 174th St. at around 10:15 p.m. Friday when two men in their late teens or early 20s approached them, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The men drew guns and robbed them of $500 in cash and an undetermined amount of property before fleeing the scene, Chew said.
No one was injured in the robbery, there were no arrests, and an investigation was continuing.
138th Street baby's crib death investigated
KEW GARDENS HILLS – Police were investigating the death of a 2-month-old baby early Sunday that did not appear to be suspicious, authorities said.
The infant was found dead in its crib at about 6:30 a.m. at 68th Avenue and 138th St., said Officer Cheryl Cox, a police spokeswoman.
The death did not appear to be the result of any criminal act, Cox said.
S. Jamaica infant dies in parents' bed
SOUTH JAMAICA – Police were investigating the death of a month-old baby whose parents discovered it had stopped breathing while it was sleeping with them in their bed, authorities said.
The parents had the child in their bed at their home at on 115th Ave. Friday night when, after they realized it had stopped breathing, they took the infant to Mary Immaculate Hospital, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The infant died at 1:25 a.m. Saturday at the hospital, Chew said, and the medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
Man shot in hand in Astoria rob try
ASTORIA – A 30-year-old man was shot in the hand after two men attempted to rob him early Sunday, police said.
The man was walking near 31st Street and 21st Avenue when he was approached by two men with a gun who tried to rob him, said Officer Cheryl Cox, a police spokeswoman.
In a scuffle, the man was shot once in the hand and the two would-be robbers fled, police said.
The man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was in stable condition, Cox said.
Teen stabbed in Richmond Hill by group of men who fled
RICHMOND HILL – A teenager was in stable condition Wednesday morning after being stabbed four times in the stomach by a group of men, authorities said.
Police did not suspect gang activity in the attack, which happened in front of 90-18 86th Ave. at 7:30 a.m., said Officer Joseph Cavitolo, a police spokesman.
The 19-year-old man was stabbed four times in the stomach and lower body by a group of five to eight men who fled the scene, Cavitolo said.
He was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was in stable condition, Cavitolo said. There were no arrests and an investigation was continuing.
Four stabbed on 103rd St. in fender-bender dispute
JACKSON HEIGHTS – Four men in a car were stabbed after an argument over a fender bender with another car early Monday, police said.
The men were driving on 103rd Street when they got into an accident with another car with two people, said Officer Cheryl Cox, a police spokeswoman.
All got out of their cars at 36-79 103rd St. and got in a dispute, Cox said. The two men stabbed the four men, who were taken to area hospitals and were in stable condition, Cox said.
There were no arrests and an investigation was continuing.
Track worker burned in Honeywell Street fall
SUNNYSIDE – A worker was burned, but not seriously, while working on the Amtrak train tracks Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The worker fell on the tracks at about 3:47 p.m. Sunday and suffered minor burn wounds. Power to the tracks was shut off while the worker was rescued, said James Spollen, a Fire Department spokesman.
The incident happened at 39-29 Honeywell St., Spollen said.
There was no further information on the man's condition.
Man robbed at Skyway Hotel
EAST ELMHURST – A 46-year-old man was robbed early Wednesday at the Skyway Hotel, police said.
The man was at the hotel at 100-19 Ditmars Blvd. when he was approached by two men, one with a silver gun, said Officer Joseph Cavitolo, a police spokesman.
The men stole an undetermined amount of cash and fled the scene, Cavitolo said. There were no injuries, no arrests and an investigation was continuing.
Boy, man injured by collapsed cornice
WOODHAVEN – A 12-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man were injured when they were hit by a cornice that collapsed from a building during strong winds Saturday, authorities said.
The incident happened at 92-20 95 St. at about 2:45 p.m., said firefighter James Spollen, a Fire Department spokesman.
The boy and man were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where they were in stable condition, Spollen said.
