Van E. Griffin, 35, a corrections officer, of 223-08 Linden Blvd. was arrested and charged with murder in the second degree in the shooting of Felicia Cosby, 24 who lived at 155-53 Foch Blvd.
Cosby was the mother of Griffin's 4-year-old daughter, according to Newsday. The killing was the result of ongoing tensions between the two over child-suppport for their daughter, it said.
Four years ago Cosby, then pregnant, nursed Griffin, who was in a coma following a motorcycle accident, back to health, the newspaper said.
Following the shooting Griffin drove to the 105th Precinct and turned himself in. He was later transferred to the 113th Precinct and was awaiting arraignment as of Tuesday night, Newsday said.
Man shot in drive-by on Springfield Blvd.
QUEENS VILLAGE – A man was shot while walking at Springfield Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue about 12:01 a.m. Friday, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman. The 21-year-old was walking when someone in an unidentified vehicle drove up and shot him once in the arm.
The gunman fled in the car and the victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition.
An investigation was continuing.
Man shot in backside on Merrick Boulevard
LAURELTON – A man was shot once in the buttocks at about 1 a.m. Sunday by an unknown assailant at 233rd Street and Merrick Boulevard, said Sgt. Billy Stiles, a Police Department spokesman.
The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition. Police were investigating.
Hollis Hills bias incidents under investigation
HOLLIS HILLS – Police were looking for vandals in two bias incidents at 263-10 Union Tpke. and 259-15 East Williston Ave., said Detective Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
In both incidents Friday, anti-Semitic and racial remarks were found on the sidewalk.
Four men shot outside Flushing nightclub
FLUSHING – Four men were shot outside Club 21 on 35th Avenue and 134th Street early Tuesday morning during an argument that police say may have stemmed from a disagreement between two of them several weeks ago.
Lin Rui Tong, 28, Huang Guo Lin, 25, Chin Goa Shing, 25, and a fourth man whom police did not identify were taken to area hospitals for various gunshot wounds, said Lt. Jack Shatinsky of the 109th Precinct.
Because of a language barrier, Shatinsky said, the police have had difficulty obtaining information from the injured men.
Altogether, police recovered three guns and eight shell casings from the scene – six rounds from a .45 caliber, one round from a .380 caliber and one from a .25 caliber – Shatinsky said.
The police said they were investigating whether an argument between two of the men a few weeks ago in Chinatown had led to the shooting outside the club.
Authorities said they were not treating the shooting as a gang-related incident.
Windsor School kids evacuated in bomb threat; nothing found
FLUSHING – An anonymous, anti-Semitic call was made to the Windsor School at 136-23 Sanford Ave. at 8:28 a.m. Friday, said Sgt. Billy Stiles, a Police Department spokesman. The school was evacuated after the caller said explosives were placed in a classroom.
Police found no explosives in the building.
Diabetic passes out in Bell Blvd. store
BAYSIDE – An elderly diabetic woman passed out at the American Vision Center at 41-01 Bell Boulevard at about 6 p.m. Tuesday.
She was treated by paramedics, her condition was stabilized, and she was transported to Flushing Hospital, police said.
Clintonville St. guard injured in hit-and-run
WHITESTONE – A school crossing guard was struck while crossing the street with children at Clintonville Street and the Cross Island Parkway service road at about 2:40 p.m. Friday, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman.
The unidentified driver of the car, who fled the scene, was described as an elderly white woman and was traveling westbound when she made a left turn onto Clintonville Street.
The crossing guard, Donna Cocuzzo, 47, was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens and treated for a left arm and leg injury.
Teen assault in Sunnyside looked into as bias crime
SUNNYSIDE – Police were investigating a possible bias incident in which a teenager was assaulted by a group of other teenagers, authorities said.
A 13-year-old Asian boy was standing on the corner of 47th Avenue and 47th Street at about 8 a.m. last Thursday when a group of five or six Hispanic teenagers accosted him and went through his pockets, said Sgt. Billy Stiles, a police spokesman.
One of the teenagers told him “No Chinese can stand where I'm standing” before leaving the boy alone, Stiles said.
There was no indication that gang activity was involved and police were investigating the attack as a possible bias incident, Stiles said.
Two shot in dispute on Rockaway Blvd.
SOUTH OZONE PARK – Two people were shot at about 11:25 p.m. Thursday night in a dispute with three unidentified men at Rockaway Boulevard and Lincoln Street, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman.
The two victims, ages 22 and 20 were both shot once in the leg and were taken to Mary Immaculate hospital in stable condition.
Police were investigating.
Teen victim of hit-and-run on Rockaway Boulevard
OZONE PARK – A 13-year-old boy was the victim of a hit-and-run accident at 131st Street and Rockaway Boulevard at about 8 a.m. Monday, said Det. Madelyne Galindo, a Police Department spokeswoman.
A northbound, gray van struck the boy and fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Jamaica hospital in stable condition.
Police were investigating.
Car hits two teens in Middle Village
MIDDLE VILLAGE – Two 13-year-old girls were in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital after being struck by a car at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, said Officer Louis Cruz, a police spokesman.
The accident happened at the Long Island Expressway service road and Hamilton Place.
A 1987 two-door sedan was traveling eastbound when it hit the two girls who were crossing the street, Cruz said. The driver was not charged.
Teen shot in leg in Long Island City
LONG ISLAND CITY – A 19-year-old man was shot once in the leg at 2 a.m. Wednesday at 41-16 12th St. and was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, said Police Officer Louis Cruz, a Police Department spokesman.
There have been no arrests and an investigation was pending.
Car kills mother, injures daughter in Ridgewood
RIDGEWOOD – A woman was killed and her 4-year-old daughter was in stable condition after being struck by a car in a Citibank parking lot at 51-10 Metropolitan Ave., said Officer Louis Cruz, a police spokesman.
The driver was entering the parking lot at 3:12 p.m. when he struck Nelly Trojhan, 37, killing her, Cruz said. The daughter was taken to Wykoff hospital with broken legs in stable condition.
The driver was not charged, the officer said.
Woman leaves kids in car in Maspeth for 12 hrs.: Cops
MASPETH – A woman was arrested Saturday and charged with neglecting her two toddlers after allegedly keeping them in a locked car for more than 12 hours at 62-59 60th Dr., said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman.
Dianna Duriana, 31, of 51-27 74th St., said she could not start the car and beer cans were on the floor of the car, Chew said. The 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl had not been changed and were not dressed warmly, police said.
The children were taken to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation. Duriana was charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, Chew said.
B'klyn man arrested in Maspeth store robbery
MASPETH – A man was arrested after allegedly robbing a Blockbuster Video store at 73-49 Grand Ave. at gunpoint about 4 a.m. Saturday, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman.
Lamont Naton, 30, of Brooklyn was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a stolen weapon and possession of stolen property.
Man shot in back in Astoria home
ASTORIA – A man was shot in the back at 36-45 34th St. at about 9:08 p.m., Monday, said Detective Carolyn Chew, a Police Department spokeswoman.
Arrested was Conrrado Pichardo, 30, of the same address. The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.
