A wedding anniversary celebration turned into a nightmare for a Queens assistant district attorney whose husband was attacked by a shark in the Bahamas Saturday.
Ave Maria Thompson and her husband, Krishna Thompson, a Wall Street banker, took a vacation to celebrate 10 years of marriage when Thompson was attacked by a shark during a morning swim.
As the shark bit into his leg, Thompson, 36, punched the animal in the nose and dragged himself ashore, scribbling his hotel number in the sand so his wife, a first-year assistant district attorney in Queens, could be notified.
The shark took a bite out of Thompson’s calf and his leg was later amputated from above the knee after he was flown to a hospital in Miami. He was in critical but stable condition, according to published reports
Thompson, a native of Westbury, L.I., currently lives with his 34-year-old wife in Central Islip, L.I.
She has been working in the Queens DA’s office since Aug. 21, 2000. A spokeswoman for that office described Maria as “a great ADA” and said District Attorney Richard Brown and the assistant district attorneys who work with Maria are praying for her and her husband.
“The entire office has them in their prayers,” the spokeswoman said.
