Auditions/Rehearsals

Community Singers of Queens is holding rehearsals for the fall concert at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 42-15 165th St., Flushing. Call 718-658-1021.

Oratorio Society Of Queens, under the artistic direction of David Close, invites singers to join the group for weekly rehearsals in the North Presbyterian Church, 154th Street and 26th Avenue, Flushing. No choral experience is necessary. Prospective members must be able to carry a tune and undergo a simple listening audition. The Queens Borough Public Library hosts Korean Day at the Flushing Library on Sun., Sept. 23, featuring crafts, music, dance, songs, storytelling, rituals. Donit miss this! Admission is free. From 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Flushing Library, 41-17 Main Street invites families all ages to enjoy an entire afternoon of fun-filled events: Learn the craft of Korean Calligraphy as demonstrated by Chi Ja Chun, in Areas A&B, from noon to 2 p.m. This program is on a first- come, first-seated basis. Materials and space are limited. Korean Popular Music and Dance by the Korean Performing Art Center will start at 1:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Korean traditional and popular music and dance will be exquisitely blended. At 2 p.m., children will be enchanted as Soh Young Lee-Segredo weaves Korean Mask Dance, Songs and Storytelling,.Join in as Soh Young reads Older Brother-Younger Brother, The Rabbits and A Tiger, and Korean Cinderella. She will also perform a mask dance and will sing Arirang, a traditional Korean folk song. Join the diverse and dedicated group of men and women who help enrich our Queens community, become a Queens Museum of Art volunteer! No experience is necessary. All it takes is a cheerful personality, team spirit, and one morning or afternoon a week. The museum staff provides all training and supports. Benefits include free admission to the QMA as well as many cultural institutions around New York City. If you have an interest in education, art and children, consider becoming a museum decent. A decent is a trained museum interpreter who conducts participatory tours for children grades K through 6 on one morning per week, focusing on the museum's permanent and changing exhibitions.
