Police Blotter: Three charged in series of NE Queens robberies

BAYSIDE — Three young Bayside residents were arrested Oct. 3 and charged in a series of six northeast Queens robberies of cash and handbags, police said.

Arrested were Patrick Brana, 17, of 1230 Estates Pl., Margaret Nici, 18, of 4765 196th St., and John Boyle, 20, of 205-10 42nd Ave., police said. They were each charged with six counts of robbery, according to authorities..

Mike Broderick, an attorney representing Brana, said the teen had worked at Cantor Fitzgerald over the summer and had been having a difficult time since the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, which killed hundreds of Cantor Fitzgerald employees along with thousands of other people.

Police said the suspects were charged in these robberies:

At about 6 p.m. Sept. 19, a 53-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag at 191st Street and Northern Boulevard in Auburndale.

On Sept. 19 at about 6:50 p.m., a 48-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag at 35-36 210th St. in Bayside.

On Sept. 27 at about 8:10 p.m., a 50-year-old man was robbed of $50 at 50-43 189th St. in Auburndale.

At about 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19, a 39-year-old woman was robbed of $100 at 33-43 155th St. in Flushing.

On Sept. 28 at about 5 p.m., a 24-year-old woman was robbed of $1,000 at 150th Place and 35th Avenue in Flushing.

And on Oct. 1 at about 4:30 p.m., a 57-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag at 33rd Avenue and Union Street in Flushing.

None of the victims was hurt, police said.

Teen stabbed outside Flushing High School

FLUSHING — A 17-year-old Flushing High School student was stabbed outside the school Friday, police said.

The victim was stabbed once in the back and once in the stomach at about 1:30 p.m. after a fight with another teen in front of the school at 35-01 Northern Blvd., police said.

The victim was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in stable condition.

Police were searching for the perpetrator, who fled the scene.

FDNY civilian arrested in 109th Precinct area

FLUSHING — A civilian member of the city Fire Department was arrested on charges of criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny Sunday, police said.

Bheeshan Mohabir, 25, was arrested at 10:13 a.m. within the area of the 109th Precinct, which covers Flushing, Whitestone and College Point, police said.

Rosedale man, 31, arrested in Bronx marijuana bust

THE BRONX — A Rosedale man was among three arrested last Thursday after police discovered pounds of marijuana, two handguns and thousands of dollars in cash in a Bronx apartment, police said.

Shandon Battle, 31, of 147-61 Brookville Blvd. in Rosedale, Gabriel Williams, 30, of 600 Trinity Ave. in the Bronx and Damian Sampson, 21, of 563 Parkside Ave. in Brooklyn were arrested, police said.

At about 12:30 a.m. last Thursday, police responded to 600 Trinity Ave., Apt. 4E and found Williams inside. He had been shot several times and was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Detectives with a search warrant recovered a total of 90 pounds of marijuana, two handguns and $19,500 in cash, police said.

Charges were pending by press time.

Briarwood man charged in cab carjacking on Main St.

JAMAICA – A livery cab driver was robbed of his vehicle Friday, but it was soon recovered and the suspected carjacker, a Briarwood man, was arrested, police said.

The cab driver, 37, was hailed at 1:15 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and Queens Boulevard, police said.

The suspect, a man in his 40s, asked to be taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, police said.

On arrival at the hospital, the suspect left the cab and displayed a knife to the victim, forcing him to get out of the vehicle, police said.

The suspect then fled with the vehicle, police said. Police transmitted a description of the suspect and the vehicle over their radios and the vehicle was stopped a short distance from the hospital, where he was subsequently arrested, police said.

Robert Bojnic, 44, of 83-20 141 St., in Briarwood was arrested and charged with robbery and grand larceny auto, police said.

The cab driver was not hurt.

Robber stabs teen on bus in St. Albans

ST. ALBANS — A 19-year-old man was stabbed after he confronted another teen who took his bag from him on a city bus last Thursday, police said.

An unidentified teen stole a bag from the victim at about 2:45 p.m. while the two were on a bus at the intersection of 111th Avenue and Farmers Boulevard in St. Albans, police said.

When confronted by the victim, the perpetrator stabbed him once in the lower back, police said.

The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police were investigating.

Girl, 12, hit by car in Far Rockaway

FAR ROCKAWAY — A 12-year-old girl was in critical condition after she was hit by a car as she crossed the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Mott Avenue last Thursday, police said.

The victim was taken to St. John’s Hospital.

The driver, whom police did not name, was ticketed for allegedly having an improper license and an obstructed view, police said.

The car’s owner was also issued a summons for allegedly permitting unlicensed operation of the car, police said.

Young man shot in back after S. Jamaica argument

SOUTH JAMAICA — A 28-year-old man was shot once in the back after a dispute with another man Friday, police said.

The shooting was at about 7 p.m. near Roscoe Street and 106th Avenue in South Jamaica, police said.

The victim was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital, where police said he was in stable condition.

Police were investigating.

Man, 19, shot in shoulder on Far Rockaway street

FAR ROCKAWAY — A 19-year-old man was shot in the shoulder on Gateway Boulevard Friday by an unidentified person, police said.

The victim was standing in front of 14-24 Gateway Blvd. at about 10:30 p.m. when he discovered that he had been shot, police said.

The victim went to St. John’s Hospital, where police said he was in stable condition.

Police were investigating.

Mugger shoots 45-year-old in face in Far Rockaway

FAR ROCKAWAY — A 45-year-old man was shot in the face after a gunman tried to rob him Saturday, police said.

The shooting was at about at 6:30 a.m. in front of 23-11 Cornaga Ave. in Far Rockaway, police said.

The victim told police he was approached by an unidentified man who displayed a gun and demanded money.

The gunman then shot him in the face and fled without taking anything, police said. The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

28-year-old shot in arm in Jamaica

JAMAICA — A 28-year-old man was shot in the arm for unknown reasons by an unidentified person Friday, police said.

The victim was standing at the corner of 106th Avenue and Polhemus Street in Jamaica at about 7 p.m. when he was shot in the right arm, police said.

He was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Police were investigating.

Astoria man among five charged in Michael Jackson ruse at Stadium

THE BRONX — Five men, including one from Astoria, were arrested Oct. 3 on charges of impersonation and criminal trespass at Yankee Stadium, police said.

Frederick Oliverier, 28, of 23-20 41st St. in Astoria, and four others allegedly posed as pop singer Michael Jackson and members of cable TV music channel VH1 to try to gain entry to the stadium at 6:45 p.m., police said.

They were arrested when their identification was challenged, police said.

Two boys struck by car at Queens Blvd. intersection

FOREST HILLS — A car hit two boys at about 3 p.m. last Thursday as they were crossing the street at Queens Boulevard and 70th Street, police said.

The victims, 11 and 13, were treated at St. John’s Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The driver was not issued any summons.

Shots fired in attempted rob in Ozone Park parking lot

OZONE PARK — Shots were fired during an attempted robbery in a parking lot at the corner of Woodhaven and Rockaway boulevards Friday, but no one was hurt, police said.

Two armed men approached the victim, a 24-year-old man, at about 10:10 p.m. and tried to rob him of some jewelry, police said.

There was a struggle, and several shots were fired, police said. A .38-caliber revolver was recovered at the scene, but no arrests were made, police said.

Police were investigating.

Man arrested in Woodhaven in attempted robbery

WOODHAVEN — A suspect in a series of robberies was arrested Friday in an attempted robbery at the corner of Woodhaven Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue, police said.

While surveying the corner at 4:30 a.m., police arrested Christopher Grosso, 42, of 1824 Menahan St. in Ridgewood and charged him with five more robberies.

Police did not disclose details of the Woodhaven attempt.

Man uses note to teller to rob bank in Astoria

ASTORIA — A man in his 30s passed a note demanding money to a bank teller and made off with $650, police said.

The man robbed the First Central Savings Bank on 35-01 30th Ave. in Astoria at about 2 p.m., police said.

He showed no weapon, and no one was hurt, police said.

SOUTH JAMAICA — A 28-year-old man was shot once in the back after a dispute with another man Friday, police said.

Two stabbed in torso at Astoria restaurant

ASTORIA — Two men were stabbed during an argument in the El Rey Mexican restaurant at 25-21 Astoria Blvd. Sunday, police said.

Three unidentified men stabbed both victims in the torso at about 2:20 a.m., police said.

The victims were taken to Elmhurst General Hospital in stable condition. The three perpetrators fled the scene.

Safe with $30,000 stolen from Wonder Bread factory

WOODHAVEN — A safe containing about $30,000 at the Wonder Bread factory at 89-18 Atlantic Ave. was stolen, police said.

The safe was discovered gone Sunday evening. A robber or robbers had forced open a rear door of the factory and taken the safe, police said.

Police were investigating.

Man’s body found on Lefferts Boulevard

RICHMOND HILL — Police discovered the badly decomposed body of an unidentified man behind 87-33 Lefferts Blvd. at about 6 p.m. Sunday, they said.

The medical examiner is to determine the cause of the man’s death, police said.

Anti-Asian slurs found on Woodside office door

WOODSIDE — A note containing anti-Asian statements was found taped to the door of a real estate office at 50-06 Skillman Ave. about 7:30 a.m. Oct. 3, police said.
