FLUSHING — Two female students reported being sexually harassed after school April 9, a School District 25 official said in a letter to parents last week.
A man described as white, age 30 to 35, about 5-foot-11, and of husky build, accosted the I.S. 25 students in two separate incidents, said Harvey Sherer, District 25 deputy superintendent.
The man touched the girls’ breasts and hips and tried to kiss them, Sherer said. They also reported the assailant offered them money to watch him masturbate, he said.
The incidents occurred on 46th Avenue on 169th Street and 46th Avenue on 156th Street, Sherer said in his letter.
Bayside patrols beefed up at dangerous intersection
BAYSIDE — The 111th Police Precinct identified one accident-prone location where it plans to increase patrols this month.
Accident-prone locations are subject to additional enforcement, said Community Affairs Officer Santo Elardo of the 111th Precinct.
These locations are targeted by police because they had an increase in the number of crashes the previous month.
This month’s location was the intersection of 58th Avenue and Booth Memorial Avenue in Fresh Meadows.
Flushing man attacked, injured with meat cleaver
FLUSHING — An early morning fight involving a meat cleaver left a 35-year-old man in the hospital in critical condition, police said.
At about 2:35 a.m., Xian Dong Chen, 35, was struck in the back of the head with a meat cleaver in a two-story building at 33-41 Prince St., police said.
Chen was still in critical condition at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens as of press time Tuesday, said hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Miska.
Yang Yun Yee, 40, who lives in the building where the fight occurred, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The meat cleaver was recovered at the scene, police said.
Fresh Meadows accident snarls late-night traffic
FRESH MEADOWS — Several people, including two police officers, were hurt in a multi-car accident on the Long Island Expressway in Fresh Meadows at about midnight Tuesday, according to a report on the Breaking News Network.
The report, which could not be independently confirmed by the NYPD, said the accident occurred at the intersection of the LIE and Francis Lewis Boulevard.
Two officers and a civilian were taken to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset with neck and back injuries, the report said. A fourth person was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens with more serious injuries, the report said.
The accident shut down the westbound LIE and backed up traffic into Nassau County.
Jamaica man dead, bullet wound to head
JAMAICA — A man was found unconscious in front of a home on 164th Place in Jamaica last Thursday with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
The victim, 21, whose name was not released, later died, police said. The city medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.
Jamaica man killed by hit-and-run driver
ST. ALBANS – A Jamaica man died after being hit by a car as he was crossing the intersection at Baisley Boulevard and Merrill Street, police reports said.
The man, 69-year-old Howard Thornton, was struck by a black vehicle driving west on Baisley Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Friday, police reports said. Thornton was pronounced dead on the scene, police reports said.
Police are looking for the driver of the car who fled, and the investigation was ongoing, police said.
1 killed, 2 injured in St. Albans crash
ST. ALBANS – An 18-year-old man was killed and two others were injured Friday morning when a car crossed the divider on Francis Lewis Boulevard and collided with a truck, police reports said.
The man, whose name was not released, was sitting on the passenger side of the car, which was traveling northbound on Francis Lewis Boulevard, police reports said. The car crossed into the southbound side of the boulevard near 113th Avenue, where it was struck by the truck, police reports said.
The driver of the car was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in stable condition, and the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, police reports said.
The investigation was ongoing, police said.
Man sentenced for role in South Jamaica robbery
SOUTH JAMAICA —A Brooklyn man was sentenced to six years in prison for his part in an August 2000 robbery in South Jamaica, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
Chris Nobles, 30, of 495 Fountain Ave., Brooklyn, pled guilty last month to attempted robbery charges in State Supreme Court, Brown’s office said. Nobles is the third person convicted in the case — Antoine Flowers, 29, of 2535 Linden Blvd. was sentenced to 18 years in prison while Troy Gaines, 28, of 2545 Linden Blvd. was convicted and faces up to 25 years in prison, the district attorney’s office said. Flowers and Gaines are from Brooklyn.
The trio was convicted and charged in an Aug. 25, 2000 gunpoint robbery at the corner of 147th Street and Rockaway Boulevard, in which they approached the victim about 2 p.m. to rob him, the district attorney’s office said.
The suspects stole the victim’s watch and chain at gunpoint before fleeing, the district attorney’s office said. The victim was identified as a professional heavyweight boxer but his name was not released.
Far Rockaway man sentenced for killing neighbor
FAR ROCKAWAY — A Far Rockaway man was sentenced Tuesday to prison for 17 1/2 years for the August 2000 murder of a neighbor.
Travis Brown, 22, of 335 Beach 45th St., shot the victim — Christopher Aulder, 20 — twice from behind, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.
The district attorney’s office said Brown shot Aulder after the two had a dispute and Aulder tried to walk away.
Brown pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in January. He was sentenced in state Supreme Court.
Cops arrest EMT in Far Rockaway sex assault
ROOSEVELT ISLAND — A woman was sexually abused by an emergency medical technician from Far Rockaway, police said.
Jamal Gilliam, 24, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault, police said.
Newsday reported that Gilliam, of 659 Nasby Place, was sent to the victim’s home last Thursday for treatment of a facial laceration.
On Friday, Newsday said, Gilliam went back to the victim’s home and told her she needed more tests, including a vaginal examination. The woman reported the incident to police Friday.
S. Ozone Pk. man shot in dispute, dies of wounds
S. OZONE PARK — A South Ozone Park man died last week after being shot several times during a dispute in Brooklyn, police said.
The victim, Narrista Heslop, 46, of 133-02 131st St., was found with three gunshot wounds about the body after being involved in a dispute at 252 Schenectady Ave in Brooklyn, police said.
Heslop was shot in the arm and hip, police said, and taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. He died of his injuries at about midnight last Thursday, police said.
No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
2 shot in Ditmars crossfire Sunday
DITMARS — Two men were shot in Ditmars early Sunday morning after they were caught in the crossfire of a group of men shooting at each other, police said.
The victims, 25 and 28, were shot while standing on the corner of 21st Street and 30th Road at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, police said. Both were taken to Western Community Hospital in stable condition, police said. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
Forest Hills man found dead in garage
FOREST HILLS — A man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in the garage of his Queens home Saturday, police said.
The victim, 35, whose name and address were not released, was found dead in the garage by family members, police said. The gun was recovered at the scene, police said, and the city medical examiner was expected to determine the cause of death.
Ridgewood girl raped at home Friday
RIDGEWOOD — A 14-year-old girl was raped inside her Queens home Friday afternoon, police said.
The victim told police she was forcibly raped by a 21-year-old acquaintance, police said, at about 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center for evaluation, police said. No arrests have been made and an investigation was ongoing.
Woodhaven vendor robbed at gunpoint
WOODHAVEN — A street vendor was robbed at gunpoint in Woodhaven Friday afternoon, police said.
The victim, 34, was on the corner of 79th Street and Linden Boulevard when he was approached by a man with a gun who demanded money, police said.
The thief got away with an undetermined amount of cash, police said. There were no injuries or arrests in the case, police said, and an investigation was underway.
LIC man found unconscious in Steinway station
LONG ISLAND CITY — A man was found unconscious in the stairwell of the Steinway Street subway station last Thursday, police said.
The victim, 48, who was not identified, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in serious condition.
No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing, police said.
