Lisa Cuiman had three hits, including two home runs, and Vanessa Zampelli went 4-for-4 to power the Our Lady of the Snows seventh-grade girls softball team to an 18-5 win over American Martyrs at PS 213 in Bayside.
The American Martyrs team made several sparkling defensive plays to keep the game close through three innings. Heading to the fourth, OLS led, 3-2, but over the next three innings, the OLS girls pounded out 13 hits resulting in 15 runs to blow the game wide open.
In addition to Cuiman and Zampelli’s offensive explosion, Danielle Cervantes, Shannon Moran, and Nicole Bavaro also had multi-hit games. Susan Garrett, Angelique Campana, Brittney Wallace, Nicolette Viglieta, Megan Brosnan, Kathy Culp and Krissy Amorese also had base hits for OLS.
Angie Campana continued her superb defensive play at second base, however, the defensive play of the game was made by Danielle Cervantes in right field. In the final Martyrs’ at-bat, Danielle charged a hard hit ball and turned a base hit into an out with her strong throw to first base. The win improved Snows’ record to 3-4
