Assemblyman Mike Cohen’s Mets — The Amazin’ Mets playing an exciting game against the Dodgers on a summer-like spring night at RGMVM. The Mets were firing on all cylinders in this one. The Mets’ infield defense once again was dazzling. Rick Fleri made several flashy plays on the infield, Robbie Hofmann turned a slick double play on a line drive and Brett Buser turned in some smooth plays around at first. The Mets’ bats were also smoking, as Jonathan Murphy smacked a booming double into the right field gap. Matt Fox also doubled on a majestic drive into the gap in left-center. Rookie sensation Jayson Schneller was 2-for-3 and a terror on the base paths. Game balls were awarded to Vincent Difinzio (3-for-3) and Nicky Caruana (2-for-2). Both veteran players have really improved over the winter. Expect more great things from the Mets in 2002.

Glendale Diner 22, Greater Ridgewood Youth Council 6. The Glendale Diner Devils came out on fire on Monday night. Their scorching performance was driven by an all-out offensive attack. Just about everyone joined in the attack for the Devils. The heavy hitting for the Devils came from Stephanie Armiola, who was (3-for- 3, four RBIs ), Melissa Endres ( 2-for-2, four RBIs), Susan Conte (1-for-2, two RBIs) and Sam Stallone (2-for-2, two RBIs). Once again it was another great pitching performance for young windmill pitcher Sam Stallone, as she combined with Jesse Graf to pitch a no-hitter for the Devils’ strong pitching rotation.

Glendale Diner 8, Middle Village Republican Club 7. The Glendale Diner Devils faced off against Middle Village Republican Club in a hard fought battle. This is a game that was a real nail-bitter and would eventually go down to the game’s final pitch. Lucia Cappuccino again provided the heavy hitting for the Devils, driving in three runs with a double in the first. The Devils got another awesome pitching performance from their young fireballer, Krystil Hofmann. Krystil was dominant, throwing her first no-hitter and recording 11 strikeouts. Jesse Graf came in with bases loaded and got a key strike out to end a rally in the fifth. Jesse is slowly becoming the late innings’ closer for the Devils, throwing smoke under pressure. However, this game would come down to the wire. The Devils’ rookie brigade (Lauren Femia, Kaitlin Kehoe, Sabrina Piazza) would all walk to load the bases and set the table. Up stepped the tired warrior, Krystil Hofmann, who would not be denied at the plate. She drove a line drive into left field and Lauren dashed home with another hard-fought Devil victory, 8-7. Expect more great things from the Glendale Diner Devils.
