St. Andrew’s sixth-graders clip St. Mary Winfield

The Big Green Machine accepted the challenge by St. Mary Winfield on Friday, April 26, defeating them 13-6.

St. Mary’s jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning following three hits and a few fielding miscues by Big Green. However, in the bottom of the first, St. Andrew’s put together a rally which led to five runs. Hits by Arton Hilati, John McEntee, Mike Lopresti, Matt Routh, Scan McEnerney and Evan Shin led to St. Andrew’s successful first.

John McEntee was near flawless on the mound as he struck out 11 St. Mary’s hitters over five innings while allowing only two walks and five hits. McEntee has 24 strikeouts over four games, averaging two Ks per inning over 14 innings. Scan McEnerney pitched perfect baseball in the sixth and seventh inning for St. Andrew’s, while allowing no base runners. McEnerney is averaging 1.7 Ks per inning.

St. Andrew’s hitters were relentless, as they compiled 13 runs on 13 hits and nine walks.

Big Green had team-wide production, as Charlie Aquista made hard contact twice, singed, stole two bases and drove in a run, Michael Lopresti went 4-for-4, with five RBIs and McEntee drove in three runs, McEnerney (two) and Even Shin (two).

Billy Almon and Jimmy Cecco each reached base in two of their three at bats, stole two bases each and each scored twice. David Dominguez contributed with his glove in left field and at third base.

St. Andrew’s raised it record to an impressive 3-1.
