By The TimesLedger

Instructional Division

Post 115 Giants vs. Astros. The Post 115 Giants took on the McDonalds Astros at Seither Stadium in a 4 p.m. start on Saturday. The Astros had a good game, as they stood stride for stride with the Giants travel squad of nine players. The last two innings were played with Rookie Division rules, as the players get ready for next season. Joey Rubino and Chris Piteo each recorded three strikeouts while pitching one inning each for the Giants. The Giants’ small squad six doubles and one triple. Joey hit the overhanging trees in left-center field, while Chris banged one double and one triple off the left-center field fence. Chris hit his triple off one of the Astros’ pitchers. The Giants’ players showed confidence and patience at the plate against live pitching, as they prepare for their next step up in Little League.

Making the Giant hit parade were:

Joey Rubino 6-for-6 (double)

Dave Fitzgerald 5-for-6 (double)

Chris Piteo 6-for-6 (three doubles, triple)

Brittany Desmond (3-for-5)

Anthony DaMario (4-for-5)

Matt Murphy (3-for-6)

Johnny Postel (3-for-5)

Ryan DiBiase (3-for-5)

Matthew Wegner (3-for-5)

Leading the defense was the outstanding glove work of Joey Rubino, Chris Piteo and Anthony DaMario.

Mets vs. Yankees. The Mets faced off against the Yankees on a beautiful spring morning at Seither Stadium. This would be a hard-hitting game from start to finish. The Mets’ defense would be put to the test in this one, as balls continued to fly to the outfield from each side. The Mets would get some fine play from their veterans in this game. Vincent Difinizio kept up his hard-hitting with another 4-for-4 game at the plate. Stephen Jackson smacked four hits of his own and has really been on a hot streak. Zachary Pabon and Stephanie Abruzzi would also provide some hard hitting for the Mighty Mets. The Mets had no shortage of dirty uniforms in this one.

Matt Fox at Short and Robbie Hofmann at second would make some diving catches to throw out runners from their knees. Playing a dynamic first base for the Mets was slick fielding Brett Buser and Ricky Fleri. The game ball for the Mets would be awarded to Brett Buser who has been a solid player throughout the season.

Mets vs. White Sox. The Michael Cohen Mets faced the Hillebrand White Sox at Seither Stadium in a game that would feature some tremendous defense from each team. The Mets gold-glove infield was once again on top of it’s game. The Amazing Mets turned several double plays behind the stellar defense of their veteran stars Matt Fox, Stephen Jackson, Ricky Fleri, Robbie Hofmann, Zach Pabon and Brett Buser

On a day when the veterans provided the defense, the offense was provided by the rookie brigade. Matt Hofmann ( 3-for-4, three RBIs), Michael Buckel (3-for-4, three RBIs, Jason Schneller (3-for-4) and Marty Hochenberger (3-for-4) all had solid days at the plate.

Expect more great things from Michael Cohen’s Amazing Mets in 2002.
