Police Blotter: Man killed by truck on Sunnyside street

SUNNYSIDE — While crossing 40th Street at Queens Boulevard, an 80-year-old man was struck and killed last Thursday afternoon by a dump truck that was backing up, police said.

The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later died. Police were conducting an investigation into the incident.

Ring stolen from Astoria’s AMMI

ASTORIA — A ring was stolen Sunday from a display case of the American Museum of the Moving Image located on 35th Avenue, police said. The piece of jewelry featured a Tiffany Co. inscription on the inside of the band.

Police have made no arrests and were continuing their investigation.

Rego Park man kills self in river

REGO PARK — A 54-year-old man from Rego Park committed suicide Monday by jumping from the Henry Hudson Parkway into the Hudson River, police said.

The man, whose name has been withheld pending notification of his family, was pulled from the river by NYPD Emergency Service and Harbor units. He was pronounced dead at Roosevelt Hospital at 6 p.m., police said.

Man shot in stomach on Corona street: Cops

CORONA — A man in his 20s was shot once in the stomach by an unidentified assailant in front of a residence on 57th Avenue just after 10 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The victim was listed in stable condition at Elmhurst General Hospital. No arrest had been made and the police were continuing their investigation.

Ridgewood man charged with DWI accident: Cops

RIDGEWOOD — Fred Robeck, 46, of Ridgewood, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault after being involved in an accident at the corner of Williams Avenue and Belmont Avenue with a police officer on a scooter early Saturday morning, police said.

The officer was treated for a back injury at Brookdale Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Robber gets $500 at Jamaica bank

JAMAICA — An unidentified man in his 30s entered a Carver Federal Savings Bank branch at 115-02 Merrick Blvd. on Friday afternoon and passed a note to a teller demanding money, police said.

The suspect fled with $500 in cash. There were no injuries and no arrests reported.

Police were investigating.

St. Albans man charged in pedestrian accident

ST. ALBANS — Hatim Gandhi, 56, of St. Albans, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident Monday night after allegedly striking an 86-year-old woman in a crosswalk on Sanford Avenue with a 1993 Buick, police said.

Gandhi was apprehended a short distance from the scene. The victim was listed in critical condition at New York Hospital Queens.

Robber flees Jamaica bank before getting any money

JAMAICA — A man attempted to rob a bank at 146-21 Jamaica Ave. Oct. 9, police said. The suspect, a man in his 20s, passed a demand note to a teller before fleeing on foot without having received any money.

Police have made no arrests in the case and were continuing their investigation.

Man struck by Toyota on Jamaica’s Hillside Ave.

JAMAICA — A 53-year-old man was struck last Thursday afternoon while crossing Hillside Avenue at 162nd Street by a late-model Toyota, police said.

The victim was listed in critical condition at Mary Immaculate Hospital. There were no arrests and no summonses issued.

One hospitalized in Flushing accident

FLUSHING — A 24-year-old pedestrian was listed in critical condition at New York Hospital after he was struck Monday night on a 41st Avenue sidewalk in Flushing by a 1994 Ford Explorer driven by Martha Guzman, police said.

Guzman’s vehicle also struck two parked cars, as well as a Honda Civic traveling eastbound on 41st Avenue near Main Street, authorities said. Three passengers in the Honda were hospitalized with minor injuries, police said. Guzman, 39, was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Bicyclist rammed by car in Floral Park hit and run

FLORAL PARK — A man in his 70s who was riding a bicycle Monday afternoon was struck by a vehicle at 267th Street and 80th Avenue, police said.

The victim was taken to North Shore Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police had made no arrests and were continuing their investigation.

Holliswood bank robbed by two men Saturday

HOLLISWOOD — Two men robbed the North Fork Bank branch at 204-12 Hillside Ave. on Saturday morning and fled with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

There were no weapons displayed, no injuries and no arrests. Police were continuing their investigation.

Police investigate Creedmoor bias crime

GLEN OAKS — Anti-Semitic remarks were found last Thursday morning written on a wall inside Creedmoor Psychiatric Center at 84-45 Winchester Blvd., police said.

The incident was being investigated as a possible bias crime.
