It was heartwarming to see many Valentine decorations on the houses and the beautifully lit hearts. It gave me a warm feeling.
I celebrated St. Valentine’s with Rocky at the exquisitely decorated Caffe on the Green. Every parcel was lit with beautiful white lights and the dining room was fitted out with beautiful red roses and other elegant decorations. The food as usual was fantastic.
Right after this I was greeted with 20 inches of snow and I was glad to get to a nice warm house and just look at the snow on the walks and street. It is nice if you can stay home and have a snow holiday, but if you can’t, you have to shovel yourself out.
I have some wonderful friends who helped keep my head above the snow. They are Robert Graziano, Patrick Murphy and Jim Pellizzi, and Biff Shannon. They are truly friends and I more than appreciate their digging me out.

Help support Boy Scout Troop 20 while enjoying a wonderful pancake breakfast, Sun., March 16, 9 a.m.-12 noon. First Reformed Church of College Point, the sponsor, $5 per person, all you can eat (children 5 and under free). Other food – cake, bagels, eggs, coffee, tea, juice.
Free drama for teens (13-17) years old. These free Poppenhusen programs help to develop self-confidence and improve speech skills. They also provide instruction in various acting skills. Monday classes for younger teens, call to put your child on the waiting list, and Tuesdays in February from 7-8 p.m. with instructor Frank Priore. Country line dancing Monday evenings 7-9:30. It’s great fun and good exercise. No leather boots, soft-soled shoes only – donation $6. Dance instruction and music by Ira and Ellen at Poppenhusen.
St. Ambrose Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes present “Murder at the Luau,” a murder mystery written and performed by actors and actresses from the Killing Kompany, Friday, April 4, 8 p.m. at St. Ambrose Council, 22-38 College Point Blvd., $40 per person in advance, $45 if paid at the door. Enjoyed watching the Westminster Dog Show and watching Mick win Best in the Show. The trainer was Bill McFadden and his winner was a 6-year-old, Kerry, a blue terrier.
I was very happy to read that the city was going ahead with the $4.3 million plan to restore the 33 acres of wetlands on the site of the former Flushing Airport in College Point. I certainly agree that this will transform a deteriorated area into a functional wetland. It would be financially beneficial to the city if the idea of using the former airport site as a blimp port or a helicopter port for blimps and helicopters became a reality. Many tourists who come to New York would love a ride. I had one and it was fantastic and it would also bring some revenue into New York.
SABINA SAYS…I certainly hope that the more than 20 inches of snow will melt or be carted away so that we can think seriously about the parading of the green.
