Snows Intermediate boys defeat St. Margaret’s in battle for first

The Our Lady of the Snows intermediate division boys’ baseball team faced off against St. Margaret’s this past week with both teams tied for first place. In a hard-fought see-saw battle, Snows prevailed 10-6 and is in sole possession of first pl

Frank Sadicario took the mound for OLS and went the distance, allowing four earned runs while striking out 13. Offensively, the boys were led by the bat of Jay Hausdorf, who hit a three-run homer and later singled in an additional run.

Other players contributing to the team’s scoring 10 runs were Alex Rydzewski, Ray Potestio, Brian Kelleher and Anthony Langone, who all had RBI singles. Scoring runs for Snows were Brian Biscotti, Frank Sadicario and James Reid. Kevin Salcedo had an RBI single, but it was his defensive play at shortstop that stood out.

Kevin made four routine plays. But in the fourth inning with runners on second and third and two outs, he made a sliding back-handed stab in the hole and then calmly threw out the runner at first to end the inning and St. Margaret’s scoring threat.

The third- and fourth-grade girls’ team from OLS defeated St. Francis this week by a score of 8-4 in a rain-shortened game. Shannon Vetack and Julia Hannigan both pitched for Snows.

Kaitlin Smolen had two hits, while Angela Chavez, Kaitlyn Biscotti and Shannon Vetack all added singles to the attack. The big bat for Snows was wielded by Julia Hannigan, who was 3-for-3 with a two-run home run.
