The Midville Dodgers Senior team (ages 17-18) continued its winning ways by defeating the Long Island Owls, 4-1, July 30. Matt Rizzotti pitched a complete game, giving up five hits while striking out 12. Consecutive hits in the third inning by Chris Kaibl
In the fourth a leadoff triple by Matt Gelermino and a base hit by Sean Cheng put the Dodgers up by two. Midville held a one-run lead in the seventh inning when Vinny Johnson collected his second hit of the game, driving in two runs to give the Dodgers a 4-1 win.
Midville Dodgers juniors sweep Pelham, gain regional playoffs spot
On Saturday the Midville Dodgers junior team (ages 15-16) swept their way into the Federation playoffs with a convincing sweep of a twi-night doubleheader against the Pelham Mets. The Dodgers continued their winning ways thanks to some timely hitting and strong pitching.
In the first game the Dodgers got on the board first with a walk to Matt Shelley and a bloop base hit by Matt Murdoch. Mike Bradley started the game for the Dodgers and lasted four innings before tiring. He kept the Mets in check, but it was a very warm evening and the humid air took its toll on the young Bradley.
A fresh Danny Rubino came in the bottom of the fourth and shut the door on the Mets. At that point the score was tied at 1 a piece. Midville came roaring back in the top of the fifth and scored five runs off the bats of Matt Shelley, Matt Murdoch and Rubino. The Dodgers added one more in the top of the seventh and there the score stayed: Midville Dodgers 7, Pelham Mets 4.
Ardezzone tosses four-hitter, fans 10 as Midville sweeps into playoffs.
In the nightcap the Midville Dodgers started Richie Ardezzone, and he had another great performance, striking out 10 while allowing only four hits. The game started as a pitchers’ dual until the bottom of the third inning when Russell Zay walked, stole second and then moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Rubino.
Pelham answered back with a run in the top of the fourth, then the Dodgers bats came to life and scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth with some timely hitting from Chris Scopo, Russell Zay and Rob Keen. In the bottom of the sixth the Dodgers put the game away by adding two more runs off of the bat of Zay. He went 2-for-3 to lead the Midville attack. With the 8-1 win the Dodgers secured the regional Federation bid starting Friday in Eisenhower Park.
Midville Dodgers freshmen earn playoff bid.
Midville’s freshmen team (ages 13 to 14) will head into the Federation playoffs this week by posting the best record in the Westchester Baseball Association. The team is well-armed to make a serious run in the regional playoffs. Led by righty ace Anthony Velazquez, the Dodgers also are a threat with big Greg Scarppula and Ian Lisenheimer on the hill.
