Police Blotter: Man found dead behind stores on Kissena Boulevard

FLUSHING — An unidentified man in his 30s was found dead in the parking lot behind a chain of stores on Kissena Boulevard Sunday morning, police said.

At 8 a.m. Sunday, the body was discovered in the lot behind 44-06 Kissena Blvd., police said. The city medical examiner was to determine the cause of death.

LIC film producer sentenced to 25 years in Afghan’s death

MINEOLA – A Long Island City film producer was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the killing of an Afghan filmmaker he murdered and dismembered shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, the Nassau County DA’s office said.

Nathan Powell, 40, admitted to stabbing and beating Jawed Wassel, whose film “Firedancer” Powell had helped produce, before cutting up the body to dispose of it, prosecutors said.

In exchange for a 20-year sentence, Powell agreed to plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter in State Supreme Court in Mineola. But Judge Donald DeRiggi added five more years to the sentence because he said Powell lied to probation officials after the deal was reached, the DA said.

Man killed in boat-jet ski collision near Howard Beach

HOWARD BEACH — A 22-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon after his jet ski water craft collided with a boat, police said. Avin Ramgoolam, 22, of 110-38 107th St. died after the 4 p.m. incident where he was propelled into Grassy Bay near 165th Avenue and Cross Bay Boulevard after the crash, police said. The boat occupants jumped into the water and removed Ramgoolam, who was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, cops said.

No summonses were issued and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Man found shot to death in car parked in Corona

CORONA — A 23-year-old man was found riddled with gunshot wounds inside a car early Wednesday morning, police said.

At 1:30 a.m. at the corner of Northern Boulevard and 115th Street, the man was discovered in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

He was rushed to New York Hospital Medical Center Queens, where he was pronounced dead at 4:09 a.m. Police made no arrests and were investigating.

Man found dead inside R subway tunnel

REGO PARK – A man was found dead inside a southbound R train subway tunnel, about 300 feet from the 63rd Drive and Queens Boulevard station at around 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

There were no signs of criminal activity and an investigation was ongoing, police said.

Police investigate man’s death in Jackson Heights building

JACKSON HEIGHTS — A 30-year-old man was found dead on a staircase in a residential building near 97th Street Friday at 6 a.m., police said. There were no signs of trauma and the city medical examiner was to determine the cause of death, authorities said. The investigation was ongoing, police said.

Man, woman found dead on boat near LaGuardia

EAST ELMHURST — Two borough residents were found dead Friday afternoon on a boat docked near LaGuardia Airport, police said. The couple, identified as Peter Kiefer, 71, and Catherine Sealey, 41, were pronounced dead at the scene, cops said. The investigation was ongoing, police said.

Man found dead at residence in Woodside, cause unknown

WOODSIDE – A 38-year-old man was found dead inside 65-44 48th Avenue Monday morning, police said.

The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death and there were no arrests in the ongoing investigation, police said.

Baby found unconscious at E. Elmhurst residence dies

EAST ELMHURST – A 9-month-old child was found unconscious by his mother Tuesday morning at 32-51 106st St., police said.

The baby, Jose Martinez, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

There were no signs of trauma, police said.

The medical examiner was to determine the cause of death and there were no arrests in the ongoing investigation.

Elmhurst man arrested in heroin cap caper

ELMHURST — Police said they discovered four kilograms of heroin packed into 168 baseball caps during an investigation Saturday near 104-08 Roosevelt Ave. Cops arrested Jorge Sandoval, 28, of 40-20 Case St. in Queens in connection with the crime.

Brooklyn man arrested in rape of Elmhurst woman

ELMHURST — Police said they arrested a 19-year-old Brooklyn man in connection with a Friday night rape. Ronald R. Montesdeoca, of 491 Ridgewood Ave., was taken into custody in the rape of an unidentified 23-year-old woman, police said.

Bronx man found dead in backyard of Hollis home

HOLLIS — The body of a 38-year-old Bronx man was found Friday morning in the back yard at 119-39 189th St., police said. The man, Timothy Aikins, 38, of 1402 Elgar Pl., was found dead at the scene, cops said.

The investigation into the incident continues, police said.

Correction officer arrested after Queens Village incident

QUEENS VILLAGE – A Rikers Island corrections officer was arrested and charged with menacing Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Marlene Pitter, 39, was taken into custody following an incident at 111-17 227th Street, police said.
