A71-year-old Maspeth women has been in a coma since February 17, when she was pulled out of her car while running errands. On the day of the attack, Cally Diacantonis drove to the Maspeth Station post office to mail a letter. As she stepped out of her car, a carjacker pulled her out and tossed her onto the sidewalk, where she hit her head, sustaining major head trauma.
The suspect fled in Diacantonis green 1995 Dodge Spirit, license plate CEY5376, heading south on 69th Street. Diacantonis was taken to the trauma ward of Elmhurst Hospital with multiple fractures of the skull and underwent immediate surgery to stem internal bleeding.
Diacantonis is a retired Long Island City High School aide and lives only a few blocks away from the incident. Shed recently had surgery on her knees and used a cane to get around.
On February 19, police released an image of the alleged attacker taken by Chase Bank cameras. The suspect is believed to be in his 20s, with blonde hair. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt at the time of the attack.
