The 40th annual Rose Ball of the Queens Botanical Garden was a tribute to 23 distinguished guests who were awarded for their leadership in serving the greater Queens community.

The ball was held under a grand white tent in the garden’s Cherry Circle. Music for dancing feet was supplied by SPN Music and Entertainment, Inc. Dinner was catered by Phillip Stone.

Most of the honorees recalled what they were doing in 1964 when the garden was started. Even though some were youngsters then, they all remembered the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, the year the garden was moved to its present location from its original location at the site of the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair.

One honoree was Lynn McMahon, who was honored for her 40 years of volunteer service to the garden stretching from the days of relocating from the old site to the most modern events the garden organizes.

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall congratulated the friends and supporters of the garden and Assistant Parks Commissioner Estelle Cooper delivered congratulations from Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
