Singers Flossie Wilson and Ruth Brisbane served accompaniment to dance…

Dancing to jazz under the stars was the theme of Voelker Orth Museum’s first anniversary gala. It was the perfect moonlit June night when members of the museum gathered to celebrate.
Singers Flossie Wilson and Ruth Brisbane served accompaniment to dance numbers provided by the Harlem Blues and Jazz Quartet.
One of the highlights of the evening was a visit from 93-year-old John Blowers, former drummer with the band, who spoke of their early days. You can hear them on their CD entitled “From Past to Present”.
A summer buffet was catered by Peter’s Catering Service under a large tent in the Victorian Garden. Horticultural expert Fred Gerber supplied the floral table decoration of pink splash plants in a take-home mug.
A silent auction with a long list of gift certificates from well-known local restaurants and vendors drew attention as money was raised for the museum.
Catherine Abrams, director of the museum, was aided in planning the event by attending board members June Brown, Pat Dillon, Georgiana Reese, Chuck Wade, Jonathan Green, Lola McLinden and other volunteers who made the evening a happy celebration. Also attending was storyteller Barbara Aliprantis.
