The Queens Courier took home two separate awards last week from the New York Press Association (NYPA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
The Courier won First Prize in the Front Page category of the NYPA’s Better Newspaper Contest.
The NYPA cited the Courier’s “nice use of big images and clean, easy to read fonts” as well as stating that the photo teasers added “a nice touch.”
Later in the week, publisher Victoria Schneps attended the annual SBA Awards where she was honored as “Small Business Journalist of the Year.”
“Vicki is a treasure,” said Rob Walsh, Commissioner of the city’s Department of Small Business Services. “I understand why the SBA is recognizing [her].”
Mayor Bloomberg in a letter to Schneps said, “I cannot think of a more appropriate recipient of this great honor. Time and again, you have supported important developments in the borough of Queens… As a former businessman, I greatly appreciate your dedication and energy to build and grow a successful enterprise.”
