Councilman Eric Gioia released tips to combat heating costs this winter, including sealing windows and doors to prevent drafts, replacing windows, keeping window shades up, clearing furniture from in front of radiators, and taking shorter showers.
Taking these steps, as well as replacing old furnaces and furnace fillers, sealing off empty rooms, turning down the thermostat at night, and turning down the water heater temperature, can save money. By adopting energy efficient measures, American families can save 10 to 50 percent, according to the Massachusetts Energy Consumer Alliance.
“There are some simple, common-sense steps you can take right now around the house to save energy and keep those costs down,” Gioia said.
