Provenzano and Carrion fund CI Library emergency roof repair

By Jon Minners

The City Island Library recently had to contend with Mother Nature when a roof leak threatened to destroy many of the volumes housed at the facility, but money from Councilwoman Madeline Provenzano and assistance from Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr. has helped save the books and allow the library to continue to serve the community.

The library, located at 320 City Island Avenue, is one of the more unique branches in the system, offering a 1,000-volume ship collection including material on naval history and warfare, boat construction and maintenance, racing, piracy and shipwrecks to go along with the nautical community it served. However, while the library has been friendly to the nautical environment around it, staffers did not expect a hole in the roof to allow water in during the brutal storms the Bronx has faced over the last several months.
