President of the Southern Queens Park Association
JOB: President of the Southern Queens Park Association. We oversee and maintain Roy Wilkins Park and provide a host of human and family services. We hold art exhibits, run workforce programs, cultural events as well as provide family counseling. I’ve been with the organization for 3 1/2 years.
RESIDENCE: I was born and raised in Queens. My family still lives here.
FAMILY FACTS: I have a 14-year-old daughter.
CAREER GOAL: I really just want to focus on building this organization. In the last 3 years we have raised a lot of capital funds. I intend on helping the organization to grow to the next level. I love working with this community.
FAVORITE MEMORY: Seeing my daughter receive all the awards she was given at her elementary school graduation was a very proud moment for me. It’s nice to see that she is really following some of the advice her mother and I have tried to instill in her.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Continuing to try to raise funds that are flexible and can be used in different ways is always a struggle. We need funding for the variety of programs we provide for the community.
INSPIRATION: My inspiration has always been the positive folks that I am around. My father has been doing non-profit work for years and built his own non-profit from the ground up. Assemblywoman Vivian Cook is also an inspiration to me and all the people I work with at the organization.
