Queens’ Biggest Losers Contest-Week 6 Of 12

Weight Watchers helping our contestants
BY MELISSA HENDRICKS
Since its inception over 40 years ago, Weight Watchers has helped millions of people achieve sustainable weight loss goals. As a sponsor of this year’s Queens Biggest Loser’s Contest, Weight Watchers has offered services free of charge to our contestants in an effort to keep them on the road to a healthy new life.
Dieting and weight loss can be extremely hard for many people and sometimes support and kinship can make all the difference. Our contestants meet with a local Weight Watchers group once a week. The meetings are led by one of Weight Watchers’ experienced group leaders like 7-year veteran Carol Pizzo. All group leaders must go through a trining course and must be members who reached their goal weight and sustained it.
As a leader, Carol provides valuable insight to members and discusses weight loss tactics. Members are always weighed in and regularly talk with people who are going through the same uphill battle.
“The meetings are amazing,” said Carol. “The members that attend the meetings generally do better then the members that just come to get weighed in.”
“By following the Weight Watcher plan I have learned portion control, I have learned to measure my food and eat a balanced diet, exercise and go to meetings,” said Darcy Novick, Queens Biggest Loser contestant. “It’s comforting to check in each week and have the support of fellow members, getting their suggestions or just hearing their stories.”
Weight Watchers offers its members two food plans, the Flex Plan and the Core Plan. Darcy is following the Flex Plan which is based on the Points Weight-Loss System. It allows members to eat any food as long as they keep track and control how much they eat. Foods are assigned point values based on calorie, fat, and fiber content. Nutritious foods lower in fat and higher in fiber have lower point values.
“By following the Weight Watcher points plan, I have had positive results, both physically and mentally,” added Darcy. “The weight is coming off and I am getting healthier and happier each day.”
On the other hand, the Core Plan controls calories by focusing a person’s food choices on a core list of wholesome, nutritious foods without counting or tracking. The Core Foods outlined in the plan, were specifically researched and tested to provide eating satisfaction without empty calories. They fill you up with fewer calories than other food choices.
“A healthy lifestyle is hugely important,” added Carol. If you treat it just as a diet it will never last. When u do it as a lifestyle its becomes a part of you and it is second nature.”

Here at The Queens Courier, we would like to thank Weight Watchers and all our sponsors for helping our hardworking contestants reach their weight loss goals. Stay focused and keep up the good work.
