On April 7, Gatorade in partnership with Scholastic Coach and Athletic Director magazine announced Tina Charles as its 2005-06 National Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Charles helped Christ the King to its second straight undefeated season and state championship as well as the number one spot in the season’s final USA Today Super 25 rankings. Chairman of the Board of Christ the King High School Senator Serphin Maltese joined Charles and coach Bob Mackey, Jill Cook and Maureen McHugh during the award presentation.
