Governor George Pataki gave parents with children a break towards the expense of attending State-owned and operated historic sites - announcing free admission for kids under the age of 13.
“New York State historic sites provide the opportunity to discover people, places and events that have shaped our remarkable State and nation,” Pataki said.
Blessed with several centuries of culture, military battlefields, and advances in transportation and travel, New York State boasts dozens of historical sites. Such locations foster an understanding of our heritage while also creating unique educational opportunities for children. The fee-waiver plan hopes to develop new initiatives while improving existing offerings so that more families can experience the rich history of New York State.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation oversees 37 historic sites across the State. Although the formal school year has ended, families are encouraged to utilize the summer as a chance for children to visit these informative localities.
