Senator Frank Padavan received Mayor Michael Bloomberg's endorsement to run for re-election in the 11th district. When giving the endorsement, Bloomberg said Padavan &#8220has done more for the City and more for the State than I think anyone appreciates or even knows.” Padavan also recently received an endorsement from the Working Families Party.
Governor hopeful and current Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi qualified to be on the ballot of the upcoming September primaries after filing a petition of more than 40,000 signatures. The required amount of signatures was 15,000.
Councilmember Hiram Monserrate, who is running for the 13th Senate District seat, filed a petition with more than 10,500, which was 10 times the 1,000 he was required to get. When Monserrate filed with the Board of Elections, he also said that he collected $200,000 in contributions from supporters.
Attorney General candidate Jeanine Pirro spent Wednesday, July 19 visiting children at the Queens County Farm Museum.
Grace Meng, a candidate for the 22nd Assembly district, has received the endorsement of the Working Families Party. Meng also qualified for the ballot with 5,750 signatures when only 500 were required.
Current Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who is running for Governor of New York, has received the endorsement of the Southeast Queens Clergy for Political Awareness.
Assemblymember Jose Peralta announced his campaign for re-election in the 39th Assembly District on Tuesday, August 1.
Paul Rivera, who formerly worked as a senior aide during John Kerry's presidential campaign, was recently named as Suozzi's new campaign manager.
Mark Green, a former New York City Public Advocate, recently received an endorsement from the New York State Political Action Committee for the National Organization for Women during his campaign for Attorney General.
The Immigrant Coalition for Democracy held a rally on Saturday, July 29, alleging that 25th Assembly District candidate Rory Lancman is trying to prevent fellow Assembly candidate Morshed Alam and Dilip Nath, Leela Maret and Harvinder Singh Duggal, all of whom are running for District Leader positions, from having a place on the ballot by challenging the signatures on their petitions. Lancman's office responded to the rally by saying the allegations were false and adding that his petition has also been challenged.
