VIP OPENS WOMEN’S RESIDENCE

By Lorna Montalvo

VIP Community Services cut the ribbon on a residential treatment center designed specifically for women struggling with substance abuse on Wednesday, December 13.

The state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services funded the 19,300-square-foot treatment center located on Fairmont Place in East Tremont/Crotona.

Sandra Ruiz Butter, president of the nonprofit VIP Community Services, which specializes in helping Bronxites overcome harmful addictions, said the gender-specific center is needed to provide a nurturing atmosphere for recovering patients.
