Douglaston resident Fran Winter had just turned 60 and wanted a new look, so when she spotted an advertisement in The Queens Courier for a makeover contest at Christie & Co. Salon
“I took a good look at myself in the mirror and thought, ‘You need a change,’” Winter wrote in her application letter to the contest. “I’ve always tried to take care of myself and pay attention to my hair and makeup, but recently whatever I’m doing is just not working.”
Winter, a project administrator for Levine Builders, could not wait to see how the experts at Christie & Co. would transform her super curly hair and lusterless skin.
“I get different input from friends and coworkers; 50 percent like it curly and 50 percent like it straight. I’m not sure which the better and more youthful style is for me,” she wrote. Winter’s husband, Stan; sons Danny and David; and six grandkids; also had their own fair share of opinions.
At the Salon, colorist Lorraine Taglioni and stylist Maria Idoate updated Winter’s color and added bright highlights, shaped the hair into a sleek bob with bangs, and blew it out straight. Manicurist June Hong and pedicurist Alla Akilova gave Winter a relaxing manicure and pedicure. The finishing touch was makeup from Claudia Terranera, who is new to the Christie & Co. family.
Winter was left nearly speechless with the end result.
“They gave me a whole new look,” she exclaimed. “I love the highlights … I’ll have to go out tonight.”
