The United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) recently unveiled their new Corporate Head Office within Court Square Place in Long Island City. The Queens location will house 245 employees who have been moved from offices in midtown Manhattan.
“Court Square Place enabled UNFCU to bring staff from several locations together in a comfortable and safe environment, increase efficiencies and provide for future growth,” said John Lewis, Vice President and General Counsel of UNFCU.
The UNFCU will occupy the first seven, as well as sixteenth and seventeenth floors of the 17-story building, and the rest of the space - approximately 125,200 square feet - is available for lease from JRT Realty Group, Inc. and Cushman & Wakefield, which serve as the exclusive leasing and management agentS of the new office tower.
“Court Square Place has been tailored, in terms of its design and braced steel construction, to meet the demand for flexible floor layouts being sought by today’s growing Manhattan-based companies,” said Jodi Pulice, founder and president of JRT Realty Group. “In addition to being drawn to Court Square Place’s new construction, businesses are attracted to Long Island City’s significantly reduced rental rates, financial incentives and easy transportation access just one subway stop from Manhattan.”
Officials hope that the building, which is the tallest to be built in Long Island City in 16 years, will spur additional development in the area.
“This is a great day for Long Island City,” Congressmember Carolyn Maloney said at the opening, which also drew Borough President Helen Marshall, Councilmember Eric Gioia, and Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff.
“Developing central business districts in other boroughs has been one of the priorities of our comprehensive redevelopment plans for the City because it will provide companies with an affordable alternative to Manhattan, allowing them to grow and create new jobs,” Doctoroff said. “Through our Economic Development Corporation (EDC), we will continue to identify companies like UNFCU and work to help them meet their needs.”
The UNFCU, a 60-year-old cooperative financial institution, had looked at Brooklyn, downtown Manhattan, and Jersey City before deciding on Queens. Their new Long Island City base of operations features panoramic views of the east side of Manhattan, the 59th Street Bridge, and United Nations Headquarters.
