WORLD CHAMPION RUNNER KEEPS KIDS ON FAST TRACK

By Jon Minners

It was a rare treat when world champion athlete, Tirunesh Dibaba competed in the 100th Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden over the past weekend, but the Bronx got her first during an even rarer visit to a Grand Concourse school.

Heading straight off a plane from her native Africa, Dibaba visited young runners from the P.S. 246 Lightning track club on Tuesday, January 30 and provided them with inspiration as many in the room would also competed at the historic MSG event.

With an interpreter in tow, Dibaba, who is only 21, discussed her already impressive career in the 3,000-, 5,000- and 10,000-meter track events with the young runners.
