“People give us their jewelry to hold, and we give them cash,” explained Jeff of the Richmond Hill location. “They pay us back, with a little interest, and then their jewelry is returned.”
Metropolitan, which puts customers first and pays top dollar, offers a 3 percent monthly interest rate and no credit check is required.
Other pawn shops, explained Danny, have a four percent rate.
For example, on a $1,000 loan, Metropolitan’s rate is $210 over the course of four months.
“A lot of people take advantage of it,” said Jeff. “People who need quick cash, who are in a pinch.”
Jeff went on to say that Metropolitan, which is fully licensed and bonded by New York State, complies with all local, state and federal laws, and keeps all customers’ information confidential.

They also work with clients on the length of their loans, if needed.
“Customers can just pay the interest due and extend the loan,” said Jeff. “If they need to, they can keep their stuff with us for years.”
