Bayside building is sold

The Queens Courier has learned that the building that houses a Bayside institution, Hazel’s House of Shoes at 35-16 Bell Boulevard, has been sold.
Harvey Lieber, owner of Hazel’s and the building for the past 30 years, said his business is in full operation and he will review his options over the next few months for continuing the boutique at another location.
“I was going to a real estate broker to rent some empty space in the building, but instead, the broker had a client who wanted to buy the entire building,” Lieber explained.
Long time occupant Joan Norman, proprietor of Knitwits, a store selling wool, patterns, knitting and crochet tools and accessories received a letter stating that the building had been sold and she must vacate by June 30. Norman has been operating her business at the site for 20 years.
“I’ve been here a long time. It’s been a good place - a happy place,” Norman said adding she hopes to find another space in the neighborhood.
Other tenants were not so forthcoming although Michelle of Heidi’s Spa and Nails also confirmed that she had received a letter stating that the building was being sold and that she had to be out by June 30. A third tenant, Admiral Reporting and Video Services said that she had heard by word of mouth that she had to leave.
The tenants believed that the building would be knocked down and replaced.
