How did you get into business?
Dr. David Duffy worked at the Metropolitan Hospital for 17 years. During that time, he was in charge of the hospital’s clinic. While there, he saw that patients were not taking as active a role in their care as he felt they should be. He also formerly had a private practice in California. Dr. Duffy opened his private practice in Astoria about a year ago, with the philosophy “that when a patient participates in their own care, there’s so many things they can do to improve their own situation” in mind.
What do you do?
Dr. Duffy’s private practice in Astoria is general internal medicine. He treats a variety of health issues, including high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and arthritis, among others.
What is special about your business?
“I focus on patient education and teaching patients,” Dr. Duffy said adding that, after a patient comes in and has been evaluated, they participate in treatment plans and get a print out of what the plan is so that they remain active in their care.
