Civic Association celebrates diversity

“We are all one face and one family,” said Rosemary Ciulla-Frisone in translating an Italian saying. Ciulla-Frisone was one of the envoys from the Queens General Assembly who made a guest appearance at the Ozone Park Civic Association’s meeting to celebrate the diversity of culture in Queens, promote greater understanding and to cherish it as one of the borough’s finest strengths.
Delegates Latchman Budhai, Ruby Danta and Madhulika Khandelwal accompanied Ciulla-Frisone in speaking about their experiences as residents and immigrants at the meeting held on Tuesday, April 17 in a testament to the mission of the Queens General Assembly, which also aims to connect civic leaders and discuss quality-of-life issues with communities.
The Queens General Assembly appoints two delegates from each of the borough’s 14 community districts. One represents an ethnic, religious or cultural group and the other is a Community Board member. They are appointed by Borough President Helen Marshall in order to participate in dialogues, present informational meetings and attend cultural events.
