The Queens New York Empire State Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction celebrated its 30th anniversary with a Spring Awards at Antun’s.
The purpose of the organization was to marshal the talents, energies and skills of women nationally in a collaborative effort to help alleviate the moral and social problems confronting youth.
For the past 30 years, the organization has expanded to include its focus on youth, known as Top Teens of America, improve the status of women, service to senior citizens, community beautification and community partnerships. Chapters, nationwide support the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and award scholarships to deserving high school seniors.
This year, scholarships were awarded to Justin Farquharson, a senior at Benjamin Cardozo H.S. who will be attending Nassau Community College, and Tiffany Casablanca, a graduating senior at Hillcrest H.S. who will be attending Briarcliff University.
Scholarships were also awarded to Bianca Branch, graduating from the Gateway Program at Jamaica High School and Taylor-Alexis Rheesa Gillard, a graduating honor senior at Francis Lewis High School.
Assemblymember William Scarborough commended the Top Ladies for all they do for youth and the community.
