Comrie Hosts 2nd Annual Senior Prom

Councilmember Leroy Comrie hosted his second annual Senior Prom at Antun’s Catering Hall in Queens Village on Thursday, June 28.
This prom afforded over 500 seniors from throughout southeast Queens the opportunity to enjoy an evening of jazz music, food and fellowship. Entertainment was provided by the Walter Kelly All-Star Jazz Band and a special performance by Obatemi “Bojangles” Wright entertained the crowd.
“I want to take the opportunity to thank Touchtone Healthcare, Mary Pride and the staff of Century 21 Milestone Realty and Antun’s Catering Hall for their generous support of the Senior Prom,” said Comrie. ” This event is an opportunity for me to say thank you to the elders in my community who have helped pave the way for the opportunities that my generation enjoys today.”
He continued, “Many of these people are unsung heroes who marched in civil rights demonstrations, sat at lunch counters and integrated segregated institutions. They were the first in their family to vote in an election or go to college. We owe an incredible debt to this generation and should do everything we can to celebrate them.”
During the evening’s festivities, special recognition was paid to couples in attendance who were married for more than 50 years.
