Hats off to seniors this month at Flushing House, the retirement residence with a sense of humor! They say laughter is good for the soul. That’s why recreation director Lisa Hoxie came up with her “Crazy Hat” party idea. She said residents just wanted to do something silly and have a good time laughing together. On Tuesday, August 21, 30 residents got together in the game room and made their own “Crazy Hats.” The next day they got up and modeled their creations to the humorous accompaniments of musician Rob Tauby (from Lee Gross Entertainment). Between 75 and 80 residents filled the Flushing House dining room with hoots and laughter, as they cheered on their favorite hat designs and models. Hoxie said “residents enjoyed the party so much we’re planning to do it again in the future.” Built in 1974, Flushing House was one of the first not-for-profit retirement residences to combine independent living with supportive services right on the premises.
