Rally to reinstate principal

Councilmember Leroy Comrie is supporting the reinstatement of Shango Blake, who was removed as principal of I.S. 109Q earlier this year amid allegations of assault and missing monies.
“It has been several weeks since the Department of Education (DOE) removed Principal Shango Blake from Intermediate School 109 without so much as a notification or explanation to the community or elected officials,” said Comrie. “During the ensuing time, many of us have had an opportunity to review the report issued by the Special Commissioner of Investigation and have found it to be inconclusive and grossly prejudicial.
He continued, “It is my belief that Blake should be immediately reinstated at I.S. 109. His track record of success at this school is exemplary. While the DOE should take pride in recently winning the Broad Prize for Public Education, our school system still needs to keep its eye on the prize. Despite recent successes, thousands of school children are still being failed each day and we need educators like Principal Blake back on the frontlines encouraging and guiding our children. It is my hope that the Department of Education will hear the outcry of parents and students in southeast Queens and do the right thing.”
