Baseball old timers honored

Bill Klapach, Jack Kaiser and Jim McElroy smile for the camera at Roma View Restaurant in Howard Beach during a ceremony held by the Greater New York Sandlot Athletic Alliance to honor their service to society through the game of baseball.
Klapach, of the Staten Island Federation and Staten Island Baseball Old Timers, was presented with the Outstanding Lifetime Community Service Award. Kaiser, Athletics Director Emeritus at Saint John’s University, was presented with the Raymond Church Lifetime Achievement Award. McElroy received the Outstanding Service to the Youth Award for his many years as Chairman of the Brooklyn-based Cadets baseball program.
Between them, the honorees boast over 150 years of baseball experience.
