The Center for the Women of New York (CWNY) sponsored the 20th Annual World of Working Women Conference and Career Fair on Friday, October 26.
The event, which was co-sponsored by the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor, local colleges, businesses and governmental agencies, was held at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel in Flushing. It included a job fair and workshops on various topics.
The keynote speaker for this year’s conference was Assemblymember William Scarborough, who is the chair of the Committee for Families and Children. He spoke about childcare standards and costs.
Along with the women who attended the 20th Annual World of Working Women Conference, many men were also in attendance.
CWNY was founded in October of 1987. It “is designed to be a research and conference center and ‘living’ museum, dedicated to recording and aiding women’s struggles to achieve full equality in our society.” Among the services it provides are Excel class, family day care training, Latina support group, money management clinic, job readiness workshop, basic computer skills class, yoga class, finance clinic, legal clinic and support groups.
