School kids help at blood drive

It’s dismaying, but only 1 of every 100 Americans donates blood - even though any healthy person at least 17-years-old and 110 pounds can give. The kids at the Lutheran School of Flushing and Bayside did their part, by advertising and promoting a Blood Drive at their school on Friday, October 26.
Three aspiring medical types, Ryan, Dennis and Amelia, are shown in their “scrubs,” staffing the intake desk for the campaign, which ran from 3 until 8:30 p.m. at the school, 36-01 Bell Boulevard in Bayside.
The kids participated in all facets of the drive, from making posters to serving juice and cookies to donors. The dedicated students and volunteers welcomed more than 40 adult supporters, and collected 24 pints of life-saving blood.
