“We’re coming around,” senior point guard Erving Walker said. “More guys are starting to step up.”
For much of the season, Walker and Ryan Pearson, the two Division I-bound seniors, were asked to carry almost the entire load. Recently, others such as sophomore Roland Brown, junior Sean Johnson and senior Anthony Martin have stepped to the forefront, easing the burden. Pearson and Walker are still the ones that do much of the heavy lifting for the Royals, but it is not always about them anymore.
“Other guys have confidence to take more shots,” Pearson said.
Holy Cross swingman Sylven Landesberg was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American game in Milwaukee March 26. Headed to Virginia in the fall, the all-time leading scorer at the Flushing school and reigning Catholic league MVP is the first All-American from Holy Cross since Willie Dersch in 1996.
