With winter’s cold temperatures still biting, more than 350 coats were given out at the second annual coat drive co-sponsored by State Senator Shirley Huntley.
The garments were distributed at the Proctor Hopson Post 1896 VFW and King Manor Museum, in Jamaica.
“By donating new and good-condition winter clothing, once again, the people of my district have demonstrated an enormous sense of solidarity,” said Huntley. “Hundreds of people will now be ready to face the hardship of cold temperatures thanks to the altruism of so many good New Yorkers.”
The drive was a collaborative effort of Huntley, Assemblymembers William Scarborough, and Rory Lancman, Councilmembers Leroy Comrie and James Gennaro, Well Care, Girl Scouts Troop #4354, Fidelis Care, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens and Centro Hispano Cuzcatlan.
Since it started, the coat drive has delivered more than 700 coats to people in need, including the homeless and low-income families.
