Gone green

The Cadettes of Girl Scout Troop 4373 in Astoria organized a drive at their school to recycle water and soft drink bottles made of plastic. The 7th graders, (from left to right) Vaso Platis, Anna Karavangelas, Chrissy Thomatos, Diana Litsas, Vikki Soldatos, Maria Platis, Kaliroi Halkias, Maria Papageorgiou collected, sorted, emptied and prepared hundreds of bottles, raising awareness in their friends and classmates. The troop meets at St. Demetrios Greek-American School of Astoria at 30-03 30th Drive. About 50 girls participate in the Girl Scout program there, from Brownies through Cadettes.
