After re-launching our web site to be the number one source of daily local information in the borough, queenscourier.com has swept away the competition, winning first-place awards for “Best Newspaper Website” and “Best Use of Multimedia” at this year’s New York Press Association (NYPA) Better Newspaper Contest.
As veterans in the newspaper business, we at The Queens Courier are pleased to have successfully ventured into the online journalism realm, but our mission is just beginning.
Over the past month, we have been updating queenscourier.com daily. Think of us as a daily news gathering organization that puts out a weekly print edition. Now you do not have to wait until Thursday to learn the latest news, read a new feature or flip through a spotlighted photo album.
Queenscourier.com was there for you every step of the way through hot-button issues like congestion pricing and the Spitzer scandal. We will continue to provide you with the news you need, as it breaks, before it hits the presses.
With original videos and audio slideshows on topics ranging from fan reactions at Shea Stadium’s final opening day to a series on immigrant laborers in Queens, and blogs on everything from health to sports to community issues, queenscourier.com is the ultimate in offering new and innovative perspectives through a wide array of multimedia content.
We are proud of our accomplishments and the NYPA’s acknowledgement of our quality, but we are not slowing down. We will continue to be your guide to the borough through our daily updates and our interactive features such as the popular Events Calendar and photo galleries. Most importantly, however, is that we will continue to be “All About You,” which has been the motto of our award-winning print editions from our beginnings 23 years ago. As we move forward with our award-winning web site, that motto holds true more than ever.
We can only get better with your help, though. Visit queenscourier.com and treat it as your home, a virtual threshold to the world’s most diverse county. Email your comments, concerns and suggestions to webmaster@queenscourier.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
